Album of the Month - Ghostface Killah - Supreme Clientele

YOU ARE NOW LISTENING TO THE SOUND OF SUPREME CLIENTELE

Tony Starks. Pretty Toney. Ironman. Black Jesus. Sun God Ghost Deini. None other than the Ghostface Killah.

Largely considered to be one of the best solo albums released by any member of the Wu-Tang Clan, Ghostface Killah's second album Supreme Clientele is the epitome of Staten Islands finest hip hop. The album was produced by an eclectic mix of people including 4 tracks by the RZA, The Blaquesmiths, Mathematics, and even Inspectah Deck. Fat bassy beats coupled with simple melodies dominate the album in the way that one can only expect from Ironman himself. The producers ended up using at least 24 identifiable samples from artists including Diana Ross, Isaac Hayes, James Brown, Rufus Thomas, and Baby Huey. Ghostface utilizes his unique rapping style and voice to individualize himself from the rest of the Killa Beez solo releases. If you've ever heard Wu-Tang's track "7th Chamber" and heard the part where Ghostface screams at you "Slammin a hype-ass verse til ya head burst/I ramshack dead in the track, and that's that" then you'll know what I mean by Ghostface's unique rapping voice. Every track on Supreme Clientele is like if Ghostface had a kid who just pissed his pants or something and Ghostface was shouting in the little kids face, but instead of telling him how much of a piece of shit he is for pissing his pants he's yelling about lightning rod fever heaters, ghetto poodles, chunky ass necklaces, sawed offs, rugers and duelers, fingerin Pamela Lee, throw bleach in your eye...etc. etc. The album has plot lines and skits intertwined and laced between it but it lacks the element of a story like Ghostface's later album Fishscale would have. The skits in the album are ridiculous as always and feature many of the Wu-Tang clan conlomerates.

This track is titled Mighty Healthy off of Ghostface Killah's sophomore album Supreme Clientele.
